Namaste…Bula Vinaka…Kia Ora hey everyone! My name is Junior Joseph, artist name Dcrae, and I am an upcoming hip-hop artist residing in Cairns QLD, Australia. Originally, I come from a diverse cultural background starting with my father who is a mixed parentage of Indian and Fijian and my mother being full blooded Maori. I was born in Brisbane Australia at the Royal Women’s Hospital on September 1st 1990, left Brisbane when I was 1 years old and moved to Sydney Australia. I was raised up rough and lived in notorious neighborhoods one being Mt Druitt (2770) in Sydney NSW. My parents struggled in life we moved around so much that I don’t remember most of my childhood except for the fact that my grandmother (birth mother’s mother), a proper tough, old school Maori woman with a massive heart of steel, raised me and my siblings. Eventually, we moved to Cairns when I was about 13 and that’s where I’ve lived all my teen years to the fullest. At the age of 15, I voluntarily left school and focused on working a full-time job to at least help provide for the household especially with my old lady being very ill and my father being absent at the time. To be honest, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into but I just knew we were in the depth of struggle so I just had to give up my education to help out. It wasn’t until early 2007 when my grandmother passed and that’s when life took its toll on me. As a 16-year-old, I barely knew the concept of taking on full responsibility of running a household or the role of a parent, so I found myself on the wrong side of life which led me to drugs and being influenced to becoming a young hustler. I’m not very proud of that part of my life but that’s basically life in the hood as they say, where no one is willing to search for their purpose in life or look beyond their everyday struggles to find the beauty in life. With peer pressure and having no role model at the time to look up to for guidance and support, it was easy to fall into the trap as it seemed like a normal thing a teenager like me should resort to. Knowing what I know now as a father of 4 (3 out of 4 are not physically with me and I miss them dearly), I would’ve stepped up to the role and did my best. Even though it's been 13 years since her passing, the memory of seeing her laying in her death bed still haunts me to this day as it was an experience that no one ever wants to go through at a young age. She was my backbone and basically taught me how to live in this world but the one thing she didn’t teach me was how to live without her. My biggest regret is not being around her as much during her last days as I was a troubled teenager going through my own. Uno I’ve been writing music since my teen days as a hobby, whether it be a verse or a full song, but I just never had the motivation or courage to push myself into making music, At times I had people laugh Uno putting me down it kinda had me questioning my choices in life at times. but deep inside I knew exactly what I wanted to make of myself; I knew which path I wanted to take, out of all the criticisms and mockery. When I was 18 years old, I thought about writing a song as a tribute to my late mother but I never got to it as I was very doubtful of my own art and talent. It wasn’t until 2018 when I finally decided to write again eventually in 2019 i put the song in black and white, and release it as my first ever single. Mama was released in July of 2019 and is inspired by my music mogul Tupac’s Dear Mama. The song’s verses portray my experiences as an individual throughout my childhood, adolescence and adulthood stages in life. Mama is now available on all music platforms so go have a listen 😊 As an upcoming artist, I’m looking at expanding my horizon by collaborating with other upcoming international artists around the globe; which is also a great opportunity to distribute my music worldwide. Speaking of collaborations, I had just released my first collab single Don’t Go featuring Lagos’ young and upcoming artist Daryl, aka Wizardry in early August of 2019. This song is more of an afrobeat party starter in comparison to Mama, and is made suitable for today’s generation music genre. On my 29th birthday, which fell on 1st September 2019; I released my second single So High. You’ll come to realize that most of my music will be based of the experiences that I’ve endured in my life, whether from the past or present and that’s because I was greatly influenced by Tupac growing up. I want to be as real as him by telling my story through my music or talking about the worldly struggles everyone’s going through I am currently working on my first album - Lost But Found, which I want to drop in 2020 so please stay tuned for the release date. Moving on to my achievements on this exciting journey….. shortly after Mama’s release, it got me a live radio interview on Radio Play Today (Los Angeles) and I was featured on their Broadcast Event Show on August 1st 2019. Mama has had the privilege of being air playing on radio stations worldwide in 57+ countries: such as USA (Trend City, LA) and Australia (Melbourne VIC). Brazil , London , Africa etc Mama secured a press release from London-based PR - Global Sound Group and its in the hands of CEO Mr. James Dyble to promote it worldwide via media platforms, entertainment magazines, radio stations, etc. Apart from Mama’s craze, Don’t Go has secured the 3rd spot on Trend City Radio’s Top 40 countdown after starting off on the 21st spot. I have been offered by several journalists to do features in Entertainment news and sections of local newspapers starting with a feature in an African magazine – Jukebox, in partnership with Daryl regarding our first collab single. I was also featured in Cairns Post Play, an entertainment guide, Cairns StarFM102.7 & communal news America With everything that has been happening in this journey, I am stoked but VERY grateful for all the love and support that is shown towards my music. It hasn’t been easy and I know I have a long way to go and more obstacles to overcome but one thing I know for sure is that I will never quit on myself or my dream, at least not this time. With that in mind Dcrae the Australian artist has signed a one year contract with BENTLEY RECORDS LLC,on 14 Wall St 20th Floor, New York, NY 10005, USA the 1yr contract is signed by CEO owner Luca Dayz, An award-winning R&B recording artist, producer & entrepreneur. President of luxogroupintl,CEO of MIXZtv LuxoAir,Luxotravels & XKON designer fashion The contract will be managed by the A&R Division at Bentley, who will assist Dcrae as an artist to make a foundation for himself. Tupac said “Whatever you see, you gotta keep a sense of humor; you gotta be able to smile through all the bullshit.” I say, “Sometimes you just have to go off the grid for a while to work on yourself and find your purpose in life. Don’t be afraid to be real or different and most importantly NEVER let a negative mind define who you are because at the end of the day, you’re the only one who can tell yourself how to live your life.
