I heard a sort of bittersweet/innocent angle to the vocal stems that I really wanted to highlight. I started with new chords to give it a sort of happy-sad treatment. On the production side, I opened up with the delayed epiano sort of thing add an old school vocoder vibe under her vocals to add some nostalgia to the track. From there it launches into a house beat. The end uses more of the original stems to give it a grittier somber finish. I added intro and post chorus sections in order to emphasize the pop aspect.
I really wanted to highlight Winona's vocals, they are pretty stunning. I did some light processing to ease up some of what was probably saturation in the high frequency ranges since it was a little raspy in the new mix. I did some slight time correction too in order to mesh with the heavy quantization - I probably could have refined that even further but time ran out.
Thanks to Winona for submitting her track, it was really inspiring to work with.
